We said goodbye to our Priest-in-Charge the Revd Keith Adlam and his wife, together with our Licensed Lay Minister Rita Goddard on the 8th July 2018. Although it was a day of celebration of all that they had done with and for us during the last seven years, it was also tinged with sadness as we shall miss them all. Thanks again to to the ladies who provided a lovely lunchtime spread for about 60 people. This was followed by Keith, Joan and Rita opening the gifts which had been presented to them earlier in their last Service (Aah!). Enjoying glorious weathersome were able to gather around as the gifts were opened in the beautiful sunshine. An added bonus was the brief appearance of the Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, the Venerable Peter Sutton who popped in on his way back from a preaching engagement. This enabled St John's to say goodbye to Peter as he was moving back to the mainland later in the month.

Wafer thin cucumber sandwiched between bread spread with margarine was just some of the food served at the November Music and Poetry evening. This night had been especially arranged to follow Remembrance Sunday and was to commemorate in a special way the ending of WW1. One or two dressed in period costume and the forty or so people who attended enjoyed listening to and sometimes joining in the favourite wartime songs. These were interspersed with appropriate poems. A good time was had by all! Not only that but £100 was collected and split between the Royal British Legion and the Help for Heroes charity
